Comment: Tampon Tax funding awarded to Life

Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland wish to echo the recent sentiments expressed by the End Violence Against Women Coalition in regards to the use of ‘Tampon Tax’ funds to fund the organisation Life.
The ‘Tampon Tax’ is a tax which inflates the cost of sanitary products for women. They are labelled as ‘luxury products’, therefore women are forced to pay for their biology. The government previously announced that £10m a year from this tax would be distributed to women's health and support charities.
As a charity, we firmly believe that all women have the right to choose what happens to their body and they should be free to make the best decision for themselves.
RCTN ensures that women and girls are supported in their choices with regard to their human rights including; sexual health, reproductive rights and the right to safe abortion.
Life are a charity that provide unregulated pregnancy counselling centres to vulnerable women, however, their work focuses upon a fundamentalist view that abortion should not be carried out, regardless of the circumstances.
The charity actively discuss alternative to abortion in the interests of spreading a religion based premise.
RCTN would like to reiterate that we support women to make whichever choice is best for them.
We believe that all women should have access to free and safe abortion. Women should have control over their own bodies.
